Tours are an exciting feature of our Music Department and usually combine a school exchange with public concerts, workshops and local school support strategies.
Overseas tours to Europe were initiated by an exchange with our Sepecialist Music counterparts in Britain. They include schools such as Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, Pimlico School in Central London, The Purcell School at Harrow and the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey.
The School Orchestra and Senior Concert band has toured in Japan and performed in the 3000 seat Okayama Concert Hall. The Big Band has toured in England, the USA and Canada. On the 2007 tour to the Baltics, the Concert Choir won first place in the Youth Choir section in the Tallinn International Choral Competition.
Interstate tours give our ensembles the chance to perform in the concert halls around Australia including Melbourne Concert Hall, the Great Hall of Parliament House in Canberra, the Opera House, the Town Hall and St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney as well as the Wrest Point Performance Complex in Hobart.
Competitions give our ensembles a chance to measure themselves against others. Marryatville High School competes in a variety of competitions, chosen for their educational and musical value. Some competitions entered regularly (but not automatically) include The Generations in Jazz competition in Mt Gamber, the Adelaide and Sydney Eisteddfods and the ABODA band festival.
